WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Bathtub Subs

Units: About 34,000 units

Importer: Munchkin Inc, of North Hills, Calif.

Hazard: The intake valve on the bottom of the submarine toy can suck up loose skin, posing laceration hazard to children.

Incidents/Injuries: CPSC and the company are aware of 19 incidents of lacerations to boys’ genital area. One of the incidents required medical attention.

Description: This recall involves battery-operated bathtub submarine toys. The toy is yellow, has a smiling face, turquoise windows, an orange propeller and an orange periscope that turns the toy on and off. The intake valve has a water pump that sucks in water to propel the submarine. The toy is intended for use by children during bath time.

Sold at: Mass merchandise retail stores nationwide and children’s stores nationwide from November 2009 through September 2010 for about $7.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children and contact Munchkin for instructions on how to return the product for a free replacement toy.

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.Name of Products: Baby Playzone™ Crawl & Cruise Playground™, Baby Playzone™ Crawl & Slide Arcade™, Baby Gymtastics™ Play Wall, Ocean Wonders™ Kick & Crawl™ Aquarium (C3068 and H8094), 1-2-3 Tetherball™, Bat & Score Goal™

Units: About 2.8 million in the US and about 125,000 in Canada

Importer: Fisher-Price, of East Aurora, N.Y.

Hazard: The valve of the inflatable ball on these toys can come off and pose a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: CPSC and Fisher-Price are aware of 46 reports of incidents where the valve came off in the US and eight reports in Canada. These include 14 reports of the valve found in a child’s mouth and three reports of a child beginning to choke. No injuries have been reported.

Children’s Mood Rings and Necklaces Recalled by D&D Distributing-Wholesale Due To Risk of Lead Exposure

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Products: “Love Tester” Mood Rings and Necklaces

Units: About 19,000 Rings and 4,000 Necklaces

Importer: D&D Distributing-Wholesale Inc., of Tacoma, Wash.

Hazard: The metal rings and necklaces contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: This recall involves a mood necklace which is 18 inches in length and an adjustable ring. The products change colors when the user’s “mood” changes. “Love Tester” and “Are You In the Mood” are labeled on the products’ packaging. The products are sold separately.

Sold at: Small retail stores nationwide from September 2005 through June 2010 for about $4.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewelry away from children and return to the store where purchased to receive a full refund or replacement product.

Hazard: The children’s metal jewelry contains high levels of cadmium. Cadmium is toxic if ingested by children and can cause adverse health effects.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Description: This recall involves 19 different styles of children’s metal necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Styles and shapes of the jewelry include hearts, heart locks, butterflies, cupcakes, peace signs and crowns. Some jewelry contains the words “Best,” “Friends” or “Forever” and/or “BFF.” Only style numbers listed below are included in this recall. The style number is included on the jewelry’s packaging.

Hazard: A shoulder strap slider buckle can break, posing a fall hazard to babies.
